FAQs Cold-Pressed Oils, A2 Ghee & Honey | Earth & Earthy™

About Earth & Earthy™

Is Earth & Earthy™ FDA registered and WHO-GMP certified?
Yes. Earth & Earthy™ products are FDA-registered and WHO-GMP certified, meaning our manufacturing meets internationally recognized standards for quality and safety.

What makes Earth & Earthy™ different from other organic brands?
We focus on traditional processing methods cold-pressing for oils, hand-churning (Bilona method) for ghee, and unprocessed extraction for honey rather than industrial refining. This preserves more natural nutrients and avoids the chemical processing common in mass-market versions of these products.

Are your products chemical-free?
Yes. Our oils are cold-pressed without heat or chemical solvents, our ghee is made using the traditional Bilona method with no additives, and our honey is raw and unprocessed with nothing added or removed.

Do you test your products for purity?
Yes. Each of our products comes with lab test certificates provided by our manufacturer, confirming quality and purity in line with our WHO-GMP certification standards.

Cold-Pressed Mustard Oil

What is cold-pressed mustard oil, and how is it different from regular mustard oil? Cold-pressed mustard oil is extracted from mustard seeds using mechanical pressure alone, without heat or chemical solvents. This preserves the oil's natural nutrients, flavor, and pungency, unlike refined mustard oil, which is processed at high heat and often chemically treated.

Is mustard oil good for daily cooking?
Yes. Cold-pressed, unrefined mustard oil has been used as a daily cooking oil across North and East India for generations. Its high smoke point (around 250°C) makes it well suited to tempering, frying, and other high-heat Indian cooking methods.

Can mustard oil be used for skin and hair?
Yes, mustard oil has traditionally been used for skin and scalp massage. Always patch-test first, and consult a dermatologist if you have sensitive skin or existing skin conditions.

Why does your mustard oil have a strong smell and taste?
That pungency comes from allyl isothiocyanate, a natural compound in mustard seeds that's released during cold-pressing. It's a sign of an unrefined, minimally processed oil  refined mustard oils are usually milder because processing strips this compound out.

Virgin Coconut Oil

What's the difference between virgin and refined coconut oil?
Virgin coconut oil is cold-pressed directly from fresh coconut meat without heat or chemical processing, retaining its natural aroma and nutrients. Refined coconut oil is typically made from dried coconut (copra) and processed with heat or chemicals, resulting in a more neutral smell and taste but fewer natural compounds.

Can I use coconut oil for both cooking and skincare?
Yes, virgin coconut oil is multi-purpose  it has a smoke point suitable for medium-heat cooking and is also commonly used topically for skin and hair. Its natural, minimally processed form makes it suitable for both uses.

Does cold-pressed coconut oil solidify?
Yes, this is normal. Coconut oil solidifies below approximately 24°C (75°F) and turns liquid above that temperature. Solidifying doesn't affect quality  it's simply how coconut oil behaves at different temperatures.

A2 Bilona Ghee

What is A2 ghee?
A2 ghee is made from milk containing the A2 beta-casein protein, found naturally in indigenous cow breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, and Rathi  as opposed to the A1 protein common in crossbred dairy cattle used in most commercial dairy production.

What is the Bilona method?
The Bilona method is a traditional ghee-making process where milk is first set into curd, hand-churned to separate butter, and then slow-cooked in small batches at low heat. It's a slower, more labor-intensive process than industrial ghee production, which separates cream directly from milk at scale.

Why is A2 Bilona ghee more expensive than regular ghee?
The cost reflects indigenous-breed milk sourcing and the labor-intensive Bilona process, which produces far less output per hour than industrial ghee-making. You're paying for traceable sourcing and traditional method, not just a premium label.

How should I store A2 ghee, and how long does it last?
Store ghee in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, using a clean, dry spoon each time. Properly stored, ghee typically stays fresh for several months to a year due to its low moisture content.

Raw Himalayan Honey

Is your honey raw and unprocessed?
Yes, our Himalayan multifloral honey is raw and unfiltered, meaning it isn't heated or processed in ways that would strip out its natural enzymes, pollen, and nutrients.

How can I tell if honey is pure?
Raw honey typically crystallizes over time (a sign of purity, not spoilage), has a thicker, less uniform texture than processed honey, and doesn't dissolve instantly in cold water the way sugar-syrup-adulterated honey often does.

Why has my honey crystallized? Is it still safe to eat?
Crystallization is a natural process in raw, unprocessed honey and doesn't mean it has spoiled. To liquefy it again, place the jar in warm (not boiling) water avoid microwaving, which can damage the honey's natural enzymes.
